Welcome to Jade & Bone®, a stunning collection of world acclaimed carved art with symbolic meaning.
Jade and bone carving is a tribal craft historically performed by the Maori people of New Zealand. This traditional endures with the carving of wearable works of art by the few New Zealand artists who maintain this craft. Necklaces are painstakingly carved in traditional symbols of cultural significance including the fish hook, koru, tiki, adze, toki and twist by master carvers. Designs mimic the harmonious flow of organic shapes found in our natural environment and, therefore, hold instant appeal.
Jade is the most worn stone the world over, holding deep intrinsic value and spiritual importance throughout many cultures including the Maori, Chinese and Mayan cultures. New Zealand jade (known as Greenstone or Pounamu) is deeply important to the Maori people of New Zealand, often gifted as a symbol of peace or love and worn as a protection amulet when on a journey. It is believed that Pounamu carries its own mana (spirit) and will carry the spirit of all those who have worn it forever engrained within. It is passed down through the generations as a family heirloom and is considered a part of one's family.
